14-15 November / IFLA APR 2025 in Mumbai to Address the ‘Growth Paradox’

News

The IFLA Asia-Pacific (APR) Regional Congress will convene at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai under the banner “Growth Paradox: Reimagining Landscapes”. Organized by the Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA), the gathering will bring together leading thinkers, practitioners and scholars in landscape architecture across Asia-Pacific to interrogate a paradox at the heart of contemporary development: how to grow without degrading.

In a region where rapid urbanisation, climate stress, biodiversity loss, and social inequality intersect, the Congress seeks to prompt more than technical exchange: it aims to provoke structural reconsideration of growth models. The organisers frame it as a moment to ask: What kind of growth are we pursuing, and who benefits from it?

Among others, the Congress will bring together a diverse panel of speakers bridging practice, academia, activism, and public policy. Among the international participants are Adriaan Geuze, Founder and Design Director of West 8 (Netherlands), Thierry Kandjee, Co-founder and Director of Taktyk Brussels Tropics (Belgium), Cristina Refolo, Founder of Refolo Landscape Architects (United Kingdom), Craig Pocock, Director of Design Environment and Co-chair of NZILA Climate Change (New Zealand), Jala Makhzoumi, President of IFLA Middle East Region and Adjunct Professor at the American University of Beirut (Lebanon), and Chung Twn Kuo, Principal of LEF, Laboratory for Environment and Form (Chinese Taiwan), Bhakti Thakoor (Enviroscape India), Kavita Jain (JRA Design), Varna Shashidhar (VSLA), Saurav Biswas (Sponge Collaborative), and Dr. K. Ramesh of the Wildlife Institute of India.

The schedule will feature keynote lectures, panels, exhibitions, and site visits oriented around ecological, social, economic and cultural lenses. The discourse is expected to challenge dominant development paradigms and propose alternatives rooted in equity, resilience, and landscape thinking.

Registration is open now, with special rates for students, ISOLA members, and international delegates.
